$88,000 State Grant for Phase 3 Construction

Last month, Governor Patterson announced that the City of Ithaca received an $88,340 Local Waterfront Revitalization Program grant for phase 3 (Market to Stewart Park).  Specifically the grant will fund the design and construction of a ‘green street’ treatment of the city-owned, west shoulder of Willow Avenue between Route 13 and Pier Road (golf course).  Green streets are an urban streetscape treatment that uses vegetated bioswales instead of raised tree lawns to encourage infiltration and water quality treatment of stormwater runoff from streets.  Since this is proposed for Willow Avenue, we will incorporate shrub willows that will perform well in swales that are flooded during rain events.

$10,000 Snow Foundation Grant

CWTI was awarded $10,000 in June from the Jon Ben Snow Foundation of Syracuse to provide the required matching funds for an Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor Grant received last year.  The grant will fund the design and printing of the Guide to the Ithaca Waterfront and an interpretive panel that describes Ithaca’s historic role as a Southern Gateway to the Erie Canal.
